Hello Everyone!

How many of you still have a Graaffie T-shirt? I still have my faded light blue that was so common then. Do you guys remember my wanting us to all meet with our kids outside College House at the turn of the century? Well we sat there for three days. After phoning Barry Becker, we decided to call it a century and go home...

Sies. It is not 2010 and while I might have left the country, and am now living in Vancouver with a wife working hard enough for me to sit at home with the ironing and two kids to lift here there and everywhere, I have left education after 26 faithful years. How many of you guys are still doing it? Hilton Pietersen is still a teacher at Wynberg Boys Primary (second oldest school in SA) and my ex-roommate, Richard Second, who doesn't reply to my emails, is now Principal of Grey College? Who else do you guys know that is still in education?

I bet none of you thought I would still around for all these years.

So let's get together on this blog, share insights, what we are doing and pictures of our wonderful time together in that dusty, God forsaken town that we all grew to love after a while!

I can now see why all those high school teachers got posts at the college and bought a house in the town - would probably have done this myself, looking back at the life they led. Doc Lourens is of course long gone, but Trevor Webster retired a few years ago as Principal of Settlers High School in Cape Town.

I often wonder, with my inability to remember even your names, whether anyone from our class can recall the names of our lecturers, apart from Blignuat - someone said he died some years back?

Alan Edwards runs an old age home in Auckland?! And I sat waiting for Barry to phone me at the airport to give me Terrence's number as a reference to enter Canada. He never did, so we lived in the terminal for six months before they let us in! And this while I "home" schooled my two laat-lammetjies in the cafeteria of the departure lounge each day!

Is Constant Smit major of GR? And who was it that became an ice-cream salesman after only a few months of teaching?

Believe it or not, while I weighed only around 70 kilograms at college, I now pack no less than 94. Even golf three times a week, swimming four times a week and stretching in the gym makes no difference - can anyone help?

So watch this space for a few pics, and please see if you can upload any you might still have.

regards

Michael Klerck
